The Union

The Union Saddle’s complex contoured shape sits perfectly at the base of the withers, providing stability while mounting and preventing sliding forward or to the side. Yet, the innovative contouring also provides flexibility to accommodate a wide variety of horses and mules. There’s no need for special pads. The Union’s unique design ensures no more hot spots or white spots, allowing both horse and rider to enjoy a more comfortable and stress-free experience.

Features

The Union Saddle is constructed from materials strong enough to handle your greatest adventures but will remain soft and comfortable for years. We use chromed-dyed suede in the seat, pommel, cantle, and handle for a smooth and comfortable rider experience.

All-natural, heavy-duty wool cushions the saddle’s weight against the horse, wicking moisture away from the horse and regulating temperature. Ride after ride, the wool will conform even more to your horse’s back, creating the perfect fit.

All hardware is stainless steel and tough enough to be considered “sailboat strength.” Our girth rigging is made of Biothane, a material with the appearance of leather but considerably stronger and with fewer maintenance issues. Biothane has been rigorously tested and safe to use against animal skin. For each and every piece of the Union Saddle, we chose the finest materials, with rider and horse safety and comfort in mind.

Some of the first remarks from riders experiencing the Union saddle are rave reviews of our revolutionary new handle. Trail riders aren’t roping cows, so why should we have saddle horns? Instead, we have replaced these unnecessary and sometimes dangerous horns with a sturdy, suede-covered arched handle. This wide handle is positioned for easy access with either hand and provides an instant sense of support and security.

The pommel and cantle of the Union saddle are designed to provide maximum security for the rider, even on challenging terrain such as steep inclines and descents. Both pieces are crafted from high-quality suede, offering a comfortable grip that naturally keeps the rider securely in place.

The elevated pommel prevents forward slipping during descents, while the cantle provides firm back support to maintain balance when ascending or during sudden movements. Additionally, the high points of the saddle are crushable, designed to collapse in the rare event of a rollover. This innovative safety feature reduces the risk of injury to the rider, providing peace of mind alongside comfort and functionality.

The stirrup assembly is designed with both versatility and rider convenience in mind. Offering exceptional freedom of motion, it allows riders to move naturally and comfortably on rugged terrain. A quick-release buckle makes adjustments a breeze, accommodating a wide range of leg lengths effortlessly. The strap securing the stirrup is secured by Velcro and permanently attached, ensuring you’ll never lose that little but critical part again. In addition, the stirrup assembly is highly customizable, with configurations available both above and below the saddle seat to suit your individual preferences.

The padding and support of the Union Saddle are designed to match the musculoskeletal system of horses. Even weight distribution eliminates pressure points that can cause white spots and sores on the horse’s back. Unlike many saddles on the market, the Union Saddle fits so effectively that there’s no need for special padding or additional adjustments to achieve the perfect fit.

Youth

Our saddles are perfect for the young rider because of its comfort, safety features, and that it's lightweight. It's built the same way as the union, just scaled down in size. The youthful twist is at no additional cost, you can choose from unicorn, horse with a cowboy hat, or our standard sage horse patch to adorn your saddle.

Customizations

Terri loved the Union Saddle’s core values of connection and security for both horse and rider, but she had a unique vision for the look. We worked with her to bring that vision to life! We used leather instead of suede, included beautiful diamond pattern stitching, leather-covered stirrups, and custom pommel and cantle bags. The result was spectacular!

We had a lot of fun working with Daisy to create a completely customized version of our saddle. She was looking for a personalized, artistic finish including tooled leather and no pommels to more resemble a bare back pad.

Was excited about our youth saddle but had a vision to make it look a little more playful. We worked together to create a unicorn version of our logo and patches and added some unicorn conches as well! The results were so cute!

One of our most fervent supporters is a real-life cattle rancher who rides for miles rounding up livestock. While he never wants to go back to his old western saddle, he missed a few details that made his western saddle special. No problem! We added tapaderos for that special flare.

Sheri has limited hip mobility and already has a hard time swinging her leg over her horse. We modified the cantle to provide a lower profile. The original high cantle provides an ultra-secure fit, but this cantle and the grippy nature of the fabric still do a fantastic job of holding Sheri tight in the saddle.

One thing we have learned from making saddles is that body proportions can vary widely! While our standard fenders are perfect for inseams from 28-38 inches, some people have shorter legs. For our customers with inseams below 28 inches, we have created fenders that fit perfectly.

The Nancy-Smaller pommels and fenders to create a perfect fit for our riders with shorter inseams.
